President for NGO’s in Health, Dr Gabriel Bernaku says Government has not shown enough commitment to the challenges of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) especially settling arrears of service providers.
He said in this era of health scares, the sector needs primary focus and the government must be up and doing in funding it adequately.
He suggested that the NHIS be made solely autonomous so it can raise and manage funds for the effective running of the scheme.
He also said government must consider adding civil society groups in health to the governing board of the NHIS.
