The Parliamentary Select Committee on Health is set to commence a four-day nationwide assessment tour of Regional and Teaching Hospitals from Tuesday, April 22, to Friday, April 25, 2025.

The move is part of the Committee’s oversight mandate to evaluate the state of healthcare infrastructure and service delivery across the country.

The tour, which will see Members of Parliament divided into three teams, aims to provide lawmakers with firsthand knowledge of the conditions within the health sector, particularly in major public hospitals. The initiative is expected to inform policy recommendations that will enhance healthcare delivery for all Ghanaians.

Hospital Tour Schedule by Teams:

• Team One: Bolgatanga Regional Hospital, Nalerigu Regional Hospital, Tamale Teaching Hospital, Tamale Regional Hospital, and Wa Regional Hospital.

• Team Two: Damongo Regional Hospital, Techiman Regional Hospital, Sunyani Regional Hospital, and Goaso Regional Hospital.

• Team Three: Kumasi Regional Hospital, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Koforidua Regional Hospital, Ho Regional Hospital, Ho Teaching Hospital, and the Greater Accra Regional Hospital.

The Committee, which plays a key role in shaping and monitoring Ghana’s health policies and programmes, is using the tour to engage directly with hospital administrators, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders. The objective is to uncover systemic challenges and gather insights for improving the nation’s healthcare infrastructure and services.

Leaders of the various teams are expected to present comprehensive reports to Parliament upon completion of the visits, highlighting pressing issues such as equipment deficits, staff shortages, funding gaps, and facility maintenance needs.

The Health Committee has called on hospital authorities and local stakeholders to fully cooperate and contribute openly during the tour, emphasizing that collaboration is essential for building a resilient and accessible healthcare system.

The Committee’s findings are anticipated to influence the health sector’s upcoming budgetary allocations and strategic planning.
