The Member of Parliament for Shai Osudoku, Linda Akweley Ocloo, has inaugurated and handed over a Health Center worth more than Gh¢300,000.00 to the Dodowa District Heath Directorate of the Greater Accra Region for the people of Ladowayo/Odumse and its environs.

The facility built on one-hectare land provided by the Chief of the twin–community at Ladowayo/Odumse is expected to serve over 70,000 populations from about five communities within the catchment area.

The sponsorship package from the Qatar Charity-Ghana, a humanitarian arm of the people of Qatar, will provide a wide range of services specially designed for their needs, including clinical care, maternal and reproductive health, nutrition, preventive care as well as mental health.

Addressing the chiefs and the people Odumse at a durbar, the MP, Linda Akweley Ocloo sees the facility as “unique” with the possibility to ease the pressure on the Dodowa District Hospital.

“Fact is, the District Hospital is not serving the people of Dodowa alone,” she added.

According to her, people have to travel from other adjoining Districts to seek health care at the Dodowa, and “we really facing a District health challenge that needs a considerable effort and planning to address it”.

She, however, thanked the Qatar Charity Foundation for supporting the District to bridge “this yarning gap in access to health facilities. This project is unique in its design”.

Madam Ocloo also acknowledged the fact the health centre is well placed and has the tendency to support a large number of people. “Odumse is most accessible. It has fairly good links with other rural areas who can quickly call on the staff of the centre for minor and intermediate services”.

In his brief remarks, the Dodowa District Director of Heath, Dr. Rev. Ebenezer Asiama noted, “this health facility will be the largest provider of high-quality comprehensive services for children, adolescents, and the adult population in the catchment area.”

He was hopeful that in no time, the facility will grow to be “one of the best facilities in the district”, as he acknowledged that, “health facility for the people of Odumse and its vicinities is long overdue”.

According to him, the District has a number of facilities comprising: three hospitals, four health centres, three private clinics, a maternity home, and ten CHPS compounds scattered across the district, however, “Odumse as a community with other adjoining communities such as Sota, Lardowayo, Fiankenya with about four thousand population has no facility. Not forgetting Mobole and some parts of Afienya in our neighboring District, also with over three thousand population”.

For Chiefs and elders of Ladorwayoe/Odumse Community, and Secretary to Numo Teye Berdai, head of the Berdai family, Williams Quaye Beddarh expressed gratitude to all stakeholders particularly Qatar charity, the MP, the District leadership and others who have worked tirelessly towards the realization of Ladorwayoe/Odumse Community Health Center.

According to him, “it is gratifying to realise that these institutions truly worked together and were determined to improve the livelihoods of the people of Ladorwayoe and its environs.

“We are very glad as a community that the project did not overly concerned and promote good health care, but also paid attention to balancing this with the need for Job creation to the people,” he noted.

The centre is expected to commence full work before, 31st December, 2021.
