Insanitary conditions at the Bawku abattoir is life threatening. An abattoir or slaughterhouse is expected to have potable water, electricity, main sewage, road and un- congested rail system and proximity to public transport.
It must also be free from pollution, but this cannot be said about the Bawku abattoir or slaughterhouse.
Residents in the Bawku Municipality have expressed worry about the insanitary conditions and unhygienic manner in which meat is handled at the facility.
They are therefore calling on the authorities to take immediate steps to address the insanitary conditions at the abattoir to prevent the spread of diseases with the onset of the rains.
