Supreme Court judge designate, Justice Senyo Dzamefe, says judges must also declare their assets just like other government officials, stressing that no one should be above the law.
Speaking during his vetting by Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Monday, June 16, 2025, Justice Dzamefe said the Constitution requires all public officers, including judges, to be transparent about their assets.
“If the law says all government appointees should declare their assets, and judges are government appointees, why not? They have to declare their assets,” he said.
When asked if he had fulfilled this requirement himself, he confidently responded, “Yes, Mr. Chairman.”
Justice Dzamefe’s comments come at a time when many Ghanaians including Former Auditor General Daniel Yaw Domelevo are demanding more transparency and accountability in public service, especially within the judiciary.
His remarks support ongoing calls from civil society groups and legal experts who believe asset declaration is a key step toward building public trust and preventing corruption.
