The Ministry of Energy has assured Ghanaians that a scheduled transfer of Karpowership Ghana’s 470MW power barge, will not affect power supply in the country.

The power barge is expected to be off the national grid for 17 days after its transfer from Tema in the Greater Accra Region to the Takoradi docks in the West Region.

A statement from the company said the barge will depart from the Tema ports on Thursday, August 15 and will berth at its new location within the Sekondi Naval Base on Friday, August 16.

Karpowership Ghana said the 17 days the barge will be out is to enable the company “to carry out various pre-commissioning works to successfully connect to the 330kv transmission lines in Sekondi.

Allaying fears of some citizens that this will cause erratic power supply, Deputy Minister of Energy, William Owuraku Aidoo said this movement will not cause any negative impact on the supply of energy.
