The Forum was to discuss land governance in Ghana and the prognosis for its use and spatial planning.

Prof Seth Asiamah said if Ghana wants to develop, the most important issue to address is land ownership.

He said land title registration in Ghana has become laborious, making it a herculean task for people to register their property.

He said most challenges in the cities are linked to land ownership, calling on stakeholders to develop frameworks to deal with this devastating issue.

Reacting to a question Prof. Asiamah said property rate which is a form of tax is not working. He suggested that land taxation will help the country to achieve social justice.

Paramount Chief of Essikado, Nana Kobina Nketsia advocated a second look at Ghana’s land laws to make them relevant.

As Ghana pursues its vision of becoming a developed country, it is crucial to promote good land governance and ensure the effective management of land and property.
