Market women plead for a rebuild of Makola#2

Traders at the New Makola Number (2) market near Agbogbloshie  in Accra are appealing to government to come to their aid and build their market which was razed down by fire in November, 2010.

They are also appealing to the Accra Metropolitan Assembly AMA, to take over  the management of the market from MMC Properties Management Limited, a company that manages the market saying they are being short changed.

The market which is near Agbogbloshie in Accra Ghana was gutted by fire in November 2010, destroying hundreds of shops and properties warlth thousands of Ghana cedis.

The fire and other market fires compelled the government at the time to invite foreign investigators into the country to help unravel the cause of the frequent fire outbreak in the country.

The situation affected traders psychologically, emotionally and got some of them out of business.

The other part of the market where some traders seek refuge, also got burnt two years later and traders has to be put up stractures at their own cost.

The traders say  min years down the line, all effort through deppolomatic  means to get the MMC Properties Management, the company managing the market to build the market for them prove unsuccessful.

Meanwhile, the company collect two years rent from the traders ranging from one hundred and fifty Ghana cedis to one thousand five hundred cedis depending on the size of the shop.

The company feather reviewed the rent period from two years down to a yearly basis with additional ten point ten percent increment with some lavies which the traders described as daylight rubbery and are calling on the government to come to their aid and build the market for them Trudy Crabbe is Acting leader of the traders.

They are also appealing to the Accra Metropolitan Assembly AMA, to take over management of the market from MMC Properties Management Limited saying the company is not living up to expectations.
