News Commentary celebrates mothers and entreat them to encourage adherence to the COVID-19 preventive protocols in their communities.
Last Sunday May 10, was observed as Mother’s Day. The Day which is marked globally is dedicated to honor mothers for their sacrifices, love, devotion, care, and concern for humanity. It is a day to celebrate the significant roles mothers play in the life of their children, family and society in general. On this occasion, we salute all mothers in every corner of Ghana and pray the blessings of God Almighty on them. Their toil and sacrifices contributed to the building of the nation.
During Mother’s Day, children honor their mothers in various ways. Some children make the day special for their mothers by sending gifts, cash, cards, words of prayer and encouragement while others go out to places of interest such as restaurants and recreational centers with their mothers to have fun. This year, however, the scenario looks different due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic which forbids social gatherings and meetings at places of interest like the beaches, cinema halls and restaurants among others.
Notwithstanding the present situation, mothers need to be celebrated and honored. Mothers spend time, energy and resources in nurturing children to become great people in societies. Society is shaped by the efforts of mothers. Most mothers have sacrificed their monies and pleasure to bring up their children to become responsible adults in society. Some went through sleepless nights and sufferings when their partners abandoned them to take care of their children.
As the nation battles COVID-19, it is essential to entreat mothers to encourage their children and other members of their households to observe all the protocols outlined by health authorities to curb the spread of the virus. They must ensure proper hand washing, use the sanitiser, wear the mask and social distance etc in their communities. As dear as children are to their mothers so is the life of every citizen to mother Ghana. The joy of every mother is to see her children respecting her wise counsel as well as practicing the etiquettes, courtesies and manners that eventually lead to a well behaved and responsible citizen.
As a people, may we also bring joy to mother Ghana by respecting and applying ourselves to all the protocols outlined for our safety and care during this pandemic. A mothers commitment, faithfulness, love and concern is exhibited by mother Ghana’s commitment, faithfulness, love and concern as spelt out by the government’s intervention policies to mitigate the plight of citizens so must we commit to obey. Thus, absorbing water and electricity bills of citizens, financial support to health workers and other frontline workers, stimulus packages to industries and Small and Medium Enterprises as well as other incentive packages must not be in vain.
As we honor our dear mothers, mothers who gave birth to us, mothers who supported us, mothers who sacrificed for us, mothers who taught us the fear of God, mothers who were examples in speech, conduct and character, may we imbibe and practice all the virtues and values that our mothers nurtured in us. Our dear mother Ghana is looking up to us to be faithful and loyal in this era of the coronavirus pandemic. May we all put our hands to the wheel and practice all the social protocols in averting the spread of the corona virus pandemic. Long live our cherish mothers. Long live mother Ghana. May the Good Lord make us great and strong.
