Fishermen at the Tema Canoe Basin say they did not have a bumper harvest on their fishing expedition Monday, June 17, as expected a day after the closed season officially ended.

They said there has not been any difference in catch made before the one month break and that of today.

The fishermen, who spoke to Radio Ghana, claimed the Fisheries Ministry did not do any proper planning before closing the sea to fishing activities.

The Awudum Chief Fisherman, Nii Odametey, alleged that the Chinese, who engage in pair trawling, were allowed to fish to stock cold stores.

He said it is a pity that foreigners are being allowed to operate without supervision and appealed to the appropriate authorities to put checks and balances on activities of the Chinese operators.
