Private legal practitioner, Martin Kpebu has called on the government to address the findings of the Ayawaso West Wuogon Commission of Inquiry report before seeking justice for the recent violence during the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun.‎

‎“The moment I saw what happened in Ablekuma North, my mind went back to Ayawaso West Wuogon. That report has been gathering dust. Not all the victims were even compensated,” Kpebu noted.

‎‎Speaking in an interview on’ the ‘Keypoint’ show on TV3, in reaction to the chaos that marred the Ablekuma election rerun including the attack on former Minister of of Fisheries and Acqua Culture, Mavis Hawa Koomson, Mr. Kpebu said the failure to act on the Ayawaso West Wuogon report by previous administration has contributed to the culture of impunity in Ghanaian politics.

‎Mr. Kpebu criticised the government under the leadership of former President Akufo-Addo, for failing to implement the Commission’s recommendations.

‎“Those who were supposed to be prosecuted were not. Government simply looked away. That is the impunity we’ve been talking about for years,” he stressed.

‎‎He warned that unless the recommendations of the Ayawaso West Wuogon report are implemented, justice cannot be achieved in the Ablekuma North case.

“If we truly want justice, then pick up the Ayawaso West Wuogon report and start from there. Otherwise, some people will continue to act as if they are above the law,” Mr. Kpebu said.

‎He added that addressing both incidents can be done simultaneously, but the Ayawaso case must be prioritized to send a strong message that no one is above accountability.
