The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei Wusu has condemned MPs who do not attend to the business of the House but manage to get their names captured on the attendance list.

Mr. Osei Wusu who was sitting in the Chair of the Speaker said the practice is bad.

The Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram Constituency, Sam George.

Member of Parliament (MP) for Ningo Prampram, Sam George who raised the matter during the correction of votes and proceedings observed that the records captured names of MPs as being present in Parliament when they were no where near the House.

Though other members challenged him to prove his claims, the First Deputy Speaker ruled that he was right because he has also observed the practice.

These comments are coming at a time when MPs are expressing concerns about recent research findings by the Political Science Department of the University of Ghana which revealed that a good number of Parliamentarians are likely to lose their seats.

Previous publications by other research groups also revealed that a number of MPs have been absenting themselves from the House without permission and risk losing their seats in line with the Constitution and the standing orders of Parliament.
