President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says he is not discouraged by the recent Afrobarometer report by the Centre for Democratic Development – Ghana (CDD-Ghana).

He said this during an encounter with the media at the Jubilee House on Friday, December 13, 2019.

”Afrobarometer; I am not discouraged. The only poll that matters is the poll on December 7. I am not rubbishing the poll, but there were polls that said I would not be President, but I am President. For me what is important is my programme and what I am carrying out. I am not discouraged by the Afrobarometer polls”.

Background

The recent Afrobarometer report reveals that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has maintained its popularity rate over the last two years while the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has dwindled in support by as much as 15%.

“Compared to 2017, the proportion of respondents who said they would vote for the NPP has dwindled by 15 percentage points from 49% to 34% while the share who said they would vote for the NDC has remained unchanged 22%.

“These findings suggest that a large chunk of the electorate is still waiting to be convinced, during the year remaining before Ghana’s 2020 presidential election, to vote for a specific candidate – or even to vote at all,” the report said.

The report also reveals 42% of Ghanaians are indecisive about voting next year and 11% are not going to vote.
