The National Commission for Civic Education, (NCCE), the Information Services Department, (ISD) and the Biakoye District Assembly of the Oti Region has begun a campaign on the upcoming referendum to sensitize citizens in the district on the need to vote massively to change article 55 (3) of the 1992, Constitution.

At a Town hall Meeting, the Biakoye District Director of the NCCE, Rev. Leonard Aglomasa and the District Information Officer, Razak Alhassan took turns to educate the people on the need to participate and vote in favour of the amendment of the article.

The Town Hall meeting was attended by traditional leaders, artisans, market women, heads of department, former Assembly members among others.

Representatives of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), the Information Services Department (ISD) took their turns to give an insight about impending referendum and constitutional provisions in the article 55 (3) of the 1992 constitution and district level elections.

They also clear the misconceptions surrounding the referendum, saying it is not a poll for the election of Municipal and District Chief Executives.

The Biakoye District Director for NCCE, Rev Leonard Aglomasa urged eligible voters to vote peaceful on the scheduled date which is December 17, to  avoid any confusion at the polling stations.

The NCCE and the ISD will organise a similar Town Hall meeting Worawora and Bowiri as part of the Referendum campaign.
