The Executive Director of the Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability, ASEPA, Mensah Thompson, has expressed disappointment at President Akufo-Addo’s declaration of being satisfied with the effectiveness of his government’s anti-corruption fight.

Speaking in an interview with CNN on Monday, President Akufo-Addo, said since his assumption of office, Ghana’s anti-corruption ranking has “gone up several notches,” adding that there is evidence to his performance.

He said anti-corruption institutions in the country were poorly resourced at the time he took over office in 2017, however, he has given the assurance that they are adequately resourced to work.

However, reacting to the President’s interview with CNN, Mr. Thompson said a lot of corruption cases involving government appointees have been left unresolved, adding this is enough proof of government’s failure in its corruption fight.

He said President Akufo-Addo’s claim in that interview that the former Auditor-General, Daniel Dormelevo’s retirement was because he had duly attained the retirement age of 60, is a half-truth.

He was speaking to Juliet Kwakye on the Uniiq Breakfast Drive.
