Baba Jamal’s journey to the Ayawaso East seat is not just a personal victory but the culmination of a political career defined by resilience and high-level service. A lawyer by profession and a seasoned statesman, his political roots run deep within the National Democratic Congress (NDC), where he previously served as the party’s Deputy General Secretary. Historically, Baba Jamal is no stranger to the halls of Parliament. He previously represented the Akwatia Constituency in the 6th Parliament from 2013 to 2017. His expertise was further recognized on the national stage when he served as a Deputy Minister for multiple portfolios, including Local Government and Rural Development, as well as Employment and Labour Relations, under the Mahama administration.

Most recently, he held the high-profile position of Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, based in Abuja. In this diplomatic role, he was instrumental in strengthening bilateral ties between Ghana and one of its most critical regional partners, often meeting with high-level delegations to discuss trade, investment, and regional security within the ECOWAS framework.
The shift to Ayawaso East represents a homecoming of sorts for a leader whose political journey actually began in the vibrant neighborhood of Nima. By securing this victory, Baba Jamal has successfully bridged his extensive background in international diplomacy and national policy with the immediate needs of his local community.
