The planned peaceful demonstration by the Minority Group in the Parliament of Ghana commenced on October 3, 2023, with the rank and file of the party, other political parties, and well-meaning Ghanaians converging to demonstrate and demand the resignation of the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Ernest Addison, and his deputies.

In an interview, Member of Parliament for Techiman-North Constituency, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, who joined in the protest, expressed that her decision to join hundreds of Ghanaians and party leaders was borne out of the current mishaps the country is experiencing under the leadership of the current NPP government.

She explained that our economy is nothing to write home about, and therefore the country deserves some sanity in the monetary system; hence, their call for the resignation of the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison. She added that the decision of the Bank of Ghana to print money without Parliament’s approval and public notice is uncalled for and an act that cripples the Ghanaian economy.

“This exercise is very important to me and the country as a whole because there must be sanity in our monetary system. The Bank of Ghana cannot just go ahead and print notes without recourse to parliament and without disclosing,” she said.

According to her, the purpose of their demonstration is to call the Bank of Ghana to order and do what is demanded of them.

She added that the unperturbed attitude of the government towards economic situations and corruptive acts plays a major role in their quest to petition the Bank of Ghana and also make their frustrations known to the President. She said that as part of her duties as an MP, it is right to join hands and call out the government to heed the cries of ordinary Ghanaians.

“As representatives of the people, I think it is right for us to draw the country’s attention to the ills in this economy,” she added.
