The Sissala East Municipal Assembly has started screening Burkinabes entering the country. This follows the alarming influx of Burkinabes into the region.

Over 1000 migrants from northern Burkina Faso have fled from their home country to settle along the Sissala enclave as farmers over alleged unrest in the Francophone West African country.

Speaking to Ibrahim Kwarteng on GBC’s Current Affairs Programme, ‘Behind the News’, the MCE Karim Nbiah, said though the people come into the region to do farming, their numbers have increased, hence the screening.

Mr. Mbiah however said the situation is under control.

A Security and Safety Analyst, Adam Bonaa disagrees with the MCE. He thinks terrorists could mix up with the Burkinabes fleeing from conflict in that country.

Mr. Bonaa stressed that Ghana has to be careful and ensure proper screening to confirm that the refugees are truly harmless.
