Christian leaders have been asked to apply decorum in making pronouncements on prophecies in the new year. This is to prevent creation of fear and panic as well as violence that has characterized prophecy pronouncements, especially during election years.

In an interaction with GBC’s Radio Ghana, the General Overseer of the Lord’s Pentecostal Church International, Apostle Richard Buafor, said although prophecies are accepted in Christianity, preachers are not obliged to publicize every prophecy.
According to him, the situation where Pastors use prophesies to market themselves especially during the 31st watch night services is a sign of immaturity.

“It is not everything that prophets should go out and be marketing, those are signs of immaturity. If the preacher is matured in the Lord he would know what to say and what not to say. There are certain revelations that you [as a preacher] have to deal with on your own to avert them but not because you want to market yourself for people to know you are a man of God, you go and say all those things for the purpose of making profit. Some of those prophecies are like the try your luck game they play if we pay attention we can identify them.”

Apostle Buafor said although previous elections in the country have been largely peaceful, Ghanaians should take nothing for granted in order to maintain the peace in the country.

“As we prepare for elections, we are relying on our past elections as they have been peaceful but we should not take anything for granted because we don’t know what the enemy is planning so I call on the Christian bodies to continue in prayer for the nation”
