Chinese Ambassador, Australian High Commissioner bid farewell to President

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed gratitude to the Chinese government for its continuous support to Ghana.

In a meeting with the outgoing Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Shi Ting Wang, at the Jubilee House in Accra Tuesday, President Akufo-Addo said the Chinese government and companies have over the years supported the growth of the Ghanaian economy.

President Akufo-Addo also thanked China for donating medical equipment to combat the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

The Outgoing Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, after two years of diplomatic duty in Ghana, announced that a second batch of Chinese assistance to Ghana in the fight against the Corona Virus is expected next month. He was optimistic Ghana will win the fight against Covid-19.

China is currently the biggest trade partner, investor, and provider of scholarship to Ghana. During his duty tour of Ghana, diplomatic relations between the two countries were taken a notch higher.

Ambassador Shi Ting Wang facilitated several high profile visits to China by top level officials including President Akufo-Addo, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawmia and the Foreign Affairs minister, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway. The Chinese Vice Premier, Sun Chunlan also visited Ghana.

During his tenure, the Sino Hydro deal was signed between Ghana and China as well as the signing of the deal for the construction of the James Town fishing harbour and several landing sites in the country.

Mr. Shi Ting Wang described Ghana as the most stable and peaceful country in Africa.

He said the momentum of economic development is strong describing government’s flagship programmes such as the 1D1F as commendable interventions.

On the pandemic, Mr. Wang said his government will continue to support Ghana in its fight.

Also to bid farewell to the President was the Australian Ambassador to Ghana, Andrew Barnes. President Akufo-Addo was grateful to him for his support during his four year stay in Ghana.

He said Australia has supported Ghana in areas of agriculture, mining, education, and several sectors of the economy and wished Mr Barnes the best of luck in his next assignment.
