World Day of Parliaments has been observed globally to recognise the role of legislators in national planning and strategising, and in ensuring greater transparency and accountability at all citizen levels.
The day also provides the opportunity for parliaments to take stock, identify challenges and devise new ways to address them effectively.
Assessing the work of Ghana’s Parliament, Executive Director of Parliamentary Network Africa, Sammy Obeng said a lot has been done inspite of the challenges, but more is required of the legislators in terms of oversight responsibilities.
Besides Covid-19 having heavily impacted the work of Parliament, legislators are being asked to consider expediting outstanding work before their tenure ends.
