The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says the time has come for Dagbon to be restored to its greatness.
President Akufo-Addo said this when the Committee of Eminent chiefs finding a lasting solution to the protracted Dagbon chieftaincy dispute presented a progress report in the presence of chiefs from both the Andani and Abudu gates at the Jubilee House Wednesday afternoon.

He said, “the overwhelming majority of the people of Dagbon, especially the youth, are tired of this age old conflict and just want the opportunity to enhance their lives in normalcy and security.”
“Government will give the requisite financial material, physical and security forces necessary for the sustenance of the peace process that is being embarked on today,” he assured.
“I am not a Dagomba and I therefore cannot be an Andani or Abudu. I have no candidate for the office of Yaa-Naa. That is a matter for the people of Dagbon.”

He appealed to the Andanis and Abudus to learn to accommodate one another.
“I would appeal from the bottom of my heart to all to rise above the passions that have filled the disputes that have marred Dagbon.”

BACKGROUND
The Asantehene-led Mediation Committee handling the Dagbon chieftaincy stalemate on Friday, November 16, 2018, finalized its road-map to the restoration of peace in Dagbon.
The three eminent Kings resolved that the Abudu Royals should perform the funeral of the late Yaa-Naa, Mahamudu Abdulai, beginning December 14-28, 2018.
This will be followed by the funeral of the late Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani II from January 4 to 18, 2019.
The two funerals are to be performed in the old Gbewaa Palace in Yendi.
Rehabilitation of the Old Gbewaa Palace is to begin with immediate effect.
The Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Sae-ed, on Thursday November 15, led chiefs from both sides of the chieftaincy divide in Dagbon to the final meeting at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.
The latest decision is in line with the current government’s resolve to permanently resolve the age-long Dagbon chieftaincy impasse.
