The flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama says the deployment of security personnel to the Volta, Oti, Upper East, and Upper West Regions ahead of the new voter registration exercise is an agenda by government to intimidate residents from coming out in their numbers to register.

According to Mr. Mahama, the said deployment is causing fear and panic among residents.

His comments follow concerns raised over the deployment of military personnel to some parts of the country.

This was contained in a statement from the former President and signed by his Special Aide, Joyce Bawa Mogtari.

The statement said it is becoming evident by the day, that government perceives political power as an end in itself, hence the resort to what it describes as crude and high-handed measures to usurp the mandate of the people.

The statement added that any President sanctioning this sort of activity stands in breach of his oath to the people of Ghana.
