The 2020 budget presentation, just like others, didn’t go without the usual drama that characterizes it.

This time around, the usual heckling and name-calling waited till the end of the presentation before unfolding.

Generally, the budget looked uneventful as the sound of ‘hear hear’ failed to support some of the laudable statements made by Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta, as Parliamentary business is noted for.

A few reactions from both the Minority and Majority gave some excitement to the rather smooth presentation, mixed with praise to God and some Biblical lines, as was predicted by the Minority prior to Parliamentary session.

However, when all seemed to come to a quiet end, the Minority group stood up and waived sheets of paper with the inscription, “Bye Bye Budget”, accompanied by a song in Twi asking the Finance Minister to go, or perhaps the ruling government since the budget was, in their posturing, going to be the final for the Minister.

This triggered a reaction from the Majority who also sang in Twi, “Asempapa bi a mate” (a good news I have heard) in reaction to their counterparts. The song, the favorite of President Nana Akufo Addo, caught up well with the Majority members who sang in unison.

Whilst Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia and Senior Minister Osafo Marfo, sang along with the Majority, Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta, who sat by the Vice President, maintained his smile in admiration.
