Officials of the Electoral Commission (EC) have just arrived in Parliament to assist in the election of The Speaker and Deputies for 8th Parliament.

The main contenders of the Speakership position are the current Speaker Professor Aaron Michael Ocquaye and Second Deputy Speaker and the longest serving Member of Parliament for Nadowli/ Kaleo, Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, representing The NDC side of The House.

The elections are in accordance with Articles 95 and 96 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana and Orders 8 and 9 of the Standing Orders of Parliament.

The Seventh Parliament has been adjourned sine die and it will be dissolved automatically by exactly midnight tonight.

Meanwhile NDC MPs dressed in all white are seen occupying the Majority Side of Parliament insisting that they won majoirty of parliamentary seats at the polls, as the seventh Parliament of the Fourth Republic  drifts into dissolution  at midnight.

The Electoral Commission declared 137 seats each for the NDC and New Patriotic Party(NPP) . The Assin North MP (NDC) has however been restrained by a Cape Coast High Court, giving the NPP  one seat Majority, the slimmest in the parliamentary history of Ghana.
