The Electoral Commission,EC, has started a two day simulation exercise to test the readiness of its equipment  and to identify challenges ahead of compiling a new Voter Register later this month.

This is in spite of the stiff resistance from some Political Parties and Stakeholders who argue that it will be wrong for the EC to compile a new register in the era of COVID-19.

Meanwhile the Ashanti Regional Director of  the EC, Benjamin Bano-Bioh  says all Ghanaian citizens of 18 years and above and of sound mind are  expected to register where they reside when the exercise begins with either a Ghanaian passport or Ghana card as proof of identification or have two guarantors who have already registered as voters.

A representative of the NDC, Alhaji Inusah however expressed dissatisfaction about the processes. He said, the officials were not wearing hand gloves and social distancing was absent. The exercise took an applicant between eight to ten minutes to complete.

From the Upper East Region Our correspondent Samuel Ayammah reports that the EC followed all the safety protocols.
