The Eastern Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), Faith Amedzake has described the just ended Limited Voter Registration exercise in the region as very successful and well organized.

In an interview with GBC’s Radio Ghana, she said no major challenges were encountered in any of the twenty-six districts across the region.

Madam Amedzake commended the public for the cooperation.

She disclosed that, challenges including minors attempting to register were referred to the Electoral Commission’s Regional Review Committee to handle.

In all, 137,934 people were registered in the Region with the New Juaben Municipality recording the highest of 11,019 people. The Afram Plains North District recorded the lowest with 1,854 people.

Madam Amedzake disagreed with the proposal to the EC to extend the period of the exercise, stressing that it will not be necessary since the Commission gave potential new voters enough opportunity to go through the exercise.

She said those who could not register by 6pm on the final day, but were in the queue were given chits to be able to register at the various district offices at another time.
