EC set for NDC national delegates’ conference

The Assistant Head of Communications for the Electoral Commission (EC), Yussif Alhassan Ayiba says the EC is prepared to conduct the elections for the National Executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) taking place today (November 17).

He said the Electoral Commission has received all the needed materials for the elections.

He explained that as soon as the EC takes over from the Party, all rules pertaining to elections will apply.

The Assistant Head of Communications made this known in an interview with host Ibrahim Kwarteng on news and current affairs programme ‘BEHIND THE NEWS’ on Uniiq FM.

Mr Ayiba said the EC will get to the grounds by 12pm and results should be announced by midnight if the programme follows the due time.

In the interim, the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Alex Segbefia has said that the NDC party is ready for the elections to take place at the Trade Fair Centre. He said congress is expected to start by 10 am prompt.

He added that the party will initially deal with the amendment of the NDC constitution and afterwards move on to the elections.

Mr Segbefia said accreditation is needed for entry. He stated that only delegates, observers and cars with acceptable stickers will be allowed into the centre.

He added that the media needs to register at the grounds even after having their accreditation and cautioned that persons without accreditation to stay away.

The Planning Committee Chairman said aside the 3000 police who have been deplored, there will be additional party internally trained professionally security to give support to the police.

BACKGROUND
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) elects its National Executives today at its 9th National Delegates Conference.

A total number of about 15, 000 persons are expected to converge at the Fantasy Dome of the Trade Fair Centre, La, today.

About 66 people are vying for various national executive positions. The positions include National Chairperson Position, Vice Chairmen, General Secretary, Deputy General Secretary, National Organizer, National Deputy Organizer, Communications Officer, Deputy Communications Officer, NEC executives and Zongo Caucus.

The National Democratic Congress has given assurance that adequate measures have been put in place to ensure an incident-free congress on today, November 17, 2018.

However, the party has already elected its National Youth Organizer and deputies, as well as Women organizer and her deputies.
