The Ghana Federation of Labour, GFL, says much as it recognises the mandate of the Electoral Commission (EC) to revise and compile a new voters’ register, it is worried about the timing for the compilation.

It is also concerned at the increasing feud between the Coalition of minority political parties, Civil Society and the Electoral Commission over the status of the existing voters’ register.

Speaking to GBC’s Radio Ghana, the Deputy Secretary General of the Ghana Federation of Labour, Kenneth Koomson, said the Federation believes a revision of the register will be more appropriate.

Mr. Koomson entreated the EC to give a listening ear to all, to enable the electorate to have confidence in the processes leading to the general elections in December.

An earlier statement issued by the Federation advocated consensus among stakeholders including the National Peace Council over the mounting tension.

The statement jointly signed by the President, Caleb Nartey and the Secretary General of the Federation, recounted the fall-out of the process of registration for the National identification card and the recent revision of the limited voters’ registration.

The statement therefore appealed to the various parties to place peace and harmony above any rights which can plunge the Country into chaos.
