The Electoral Commission (EC) has refuted claims that it is phasing out registration in 6,300 Registration Centres out of the total 33,000 centres throughout the country.

After a meeting between the EC and Parliament’s Special Budget Committee, the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu said the EC Chairperson had disclosed that the registration will be phased out in some 6,300 centres, a situation he believes will make it difficult for a lot of people to register.

However, a Deputy Chairman of the EC, Dr. Bossman Asare said the Minority Leader probably did not understand the EC.

According to him, what the Commission intends to do is to carry out the registration exercise in five clusters, and each cluster will take care of more than 6,300 Centres.

But the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu said he is disappointed at the responses given by the EC at the meeting with the Special Budget Committee of Parliament.

According to the Tamale South Legislator, Mrs. Jean Mensa told the Committee exactly so.
