The National Coordinator of the Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO), Albert Arhin, says the Electoral Commission must consider ways of enforcing strict adherence to the COVID-19 protocols at various centres for the Voters’ Registration.
Speaking on ‘Behind the News’, Mr. Arhin was worried that although 94 percent of the centres CODEO visited on Day 1 of the exercise were spacious, most registrants still failed to respect the social distancing protocol.
All the reports that were received from the various people we sent to centres are claiming that the protocol is being ignored. There are cases where sometimes even washing of hands becomes a problem.
He attributed this partly to poor public education on when designated centres or clusters will start registering to avoid the needless rush to register leading to the breach of social distancing rules.
Mr. Arhin was however satisfied with the performance of the Biometric Verification Devices nationwide.
