The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has called for the introduction of a structured mentorship program that would allow experienced legislators to guide first-term Members of Parliament (MPs). He said such an initiative would help new MPs integrate more effectively and enhance knowledge sharing within the House.

The Speaker made the remarks during an engagement session held with first-term MPs aimed at strengthening collaboration and bridging the gap between his office and newly elected legislators. He stressed that mentorship is a crucial tool for building a more efficient and united Parliament.

Rt. Hon. Bagbin emphasised the importance of ongoing interactions and announced that similar engagements would soon be organized for continuing MPs, as well as for the media and the general public, through televised broadcasts designed to promote greater openness.

Reaffirming the vision of the 9th Parliament, the Speaker underscored Parliament’s commitment to inclusivity and transparency. He urged MPs to help cultivate a democratic culture grounded in integrity, honesty, civility, and active participation.

Reflecting on Ghana’s democratic journey, Rt. Hon. Bagbin noted a gradual shift away from excessive partisanship toward a more mature and vibrant multiparty environment. He encouraged MPs to maintain their party identities while upholding values that advance national development.

Also present at the engagement were the Clerk to Parliament, Mr. Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror; the Deputy Majority Whip, Hon. Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe; and the Deputy Minority Leader, Hon. Patricia Appiagyei.
