Former President John Dramani Mahama has joined the leadership and congregants of the Evangelical Presbyterian (EP) Church at Ho in the Volta Region for a Thanksgiving Service to end their 175th Anniversary Celebrations.

Preaching the sermon, the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church, Rt. Reverend Lt Colonel Bliss Divine Agbeko said the Church has decided to build a state of the art Conference Center and called on members of the Church to donate towards its realization.

The Evangelical Presbyterian Church is one of the leading Christian denominations in the country. Even though the main aim of the Church was to propagate the word of God to save the people, the Church also concerns itself with the social and material well-being of members and also contributes to nation building.

To this end, the Church has a University College located at Ho, a Theological Seminary at Peki also in the Volta Region and two Colleges of Education at Bimbila and Amedzope. It also has two Technical Vocational institutions, six Senior High Schools, 157 Junior High Schools and 549 Kindergarten and Primary Schools across the country.

The EP Church has also invested in health facilities across the country.

Leadership of the Church in Ghana, Togo and also from Germany as well as members attended the thanksgiving service with Former President John Mahama as Special Guest of Honour.

The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Rt. Reverend Dr. Lt Colonel Bliss Divine Agbeko said “people called into leadership should strive to live righteous lives at all times”.

He urged members and for that matter Christians to relentlessly bear the image of God in all their endeavours. According to him the Church will find ways to sustain growth in it’s vision and mission.

“Continue bearing the image of God to the end. Press on. Our motivation for pressing on to the end as a church will be to find means and ways of sustenance…We want to put up an ultra modern conference facility to mark the 175th Anniversary of the Church. This is doable with God on our side. Our number is about 250,000 only. If everyone will contribute 10 Cedis as a member of the Church, we will be able to get 2.5 million Ghana Cedis which will send us a long way into achieving our goal” he noted.

Former President John Mahama commended the Church for the role it has and continue to play in nation building. He encouraged the members to continue to seek both the spiritual and social well-being of it’s people.

According to former President Mahama, greediness, arrogance, selfishness and other negative human characters are not Christ-like and should be shunned by all who profess to be Christians.

“If you say you are a Christian it means you are a follower of Christ. And if you are a follower of Christ you must live by Christ examples. Christ was modest, he was humble, he was generous, he was kind, he was loving and so if you say you are a follower of Christ and you are arrogant, you are stubborn, you are greedy, you are selfish then you don’t deserve to be called a Christian. We must always spread Christian love especially in this times where we all agree that times are hard. This is the time we must show our Christian charity by loving our neighbours as ourselves and so whatever little you have to share, you should share with your neighbours”, he posited.

The Church hopes to complete the Ultra Modern Conference facility by close of November 2023.
