Ghana Federation of Labor expresses worry over Political Parties, EC disagreements

The Ghana Federation of Labor, GFL says it remains worried about  the stance of political parties and the EC over the compilation of a new voters register. The Federation says such disagreements have the tendency to send negative signals to the international community.Besides, it can also impact negatively on the economy.

This is contained in a statement signed by the President of the GFL, Caleb Nartey and Secretary, Abraham Koomson after  the Federation held an emergency virtual meeting.

The Federation appealed to Parliament, Council of State and the Eminent Advisory Committee to enhance engagements among the Political parties and the EC, and the National Security to avert acts that could escalate tension as the country ahead to the polls in December.

In an interview with Radio Ghana, Secretary General of the GFL,Abraham Koomson stressed that electoral laws are quite sensitive, therefore there is the need to build consensus among all stakeholders on the issues, so as to enhance confidence in the electoral process.

He said the right to vote as a citizen of Ghana is being violated by the conditions outlined by the EC as eligible criteria for registration as a voter .
