Farm Radio International, FRI has called on the Ghana Journalists Association, GJA and the National Media Commission, NMC to Monitor and Sanction Radio Stations that Broadcast hate speech as the country draws closer to the 2020 elections.
As FRI joins the international community in celebrating World Radio Day, it encourages the public to see Radio as a tool to foster and strengthen diversity, peace and to contribute towards the development in the country.
The Country Director of FRI, Benjamin Fiafor, urged Radio Stations in the country to celebrate World Radio day as part of their regular programming and also lead discussions on the theme; Dialogue, Tolerance and Peace.
He was content with the performance of Radio in Ghana. He hoped that radio will concentrate more on the social development of the country.

The Ghana Journalists Association, GJA, says it will collaborate with the National Media Commission to ensure that the airwaves are sanitised.
Speaking to Radio Ghana, the President of the GJA, Roland Affail Monney reiterated the need to train more journalists on broadcast programmes to ensure sanity in the airwaves before during and after the 2020 elections.
Meanwhile, the National Media Commission, NMC, says it is monitoring all Radio Stations to ensure that there is sanity in the airwaves.
The Chairman of the Commission, Yaw Boadu Ayeboafo called on all Radio Stations to be circumspect in their reportage as well as show professionalism on the airwaves.
Speaking to GBC’s Rukayatu Musah, Mr. Ayeboafo called on the public and the media to report any hate-speech to the Commission. He said NMC is ready to address any case presented to it.
