Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee and Deputy Minority Leader in Parliament, James Klutse Avedzi, says the country’s budgeting process, needs to be more responsive to the people.

Parliamentarians should therefore be allowed to make inputs into the budget to address concerns of their constituents.

He said this at an Accountability Forum organised by the Parliamentary Training Institute and other partners in Accra.

The forum was organised to enhance public service accountability and performance.

The Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, PAC, who is also the Deputy Minority Leader, James Klutse Avedzi, said Parliamentarians are the representatives of the people and therefore should be allowed to make inputs during budget preparations.

This will help address the concerns of the Ordinary man .

The Ameer and Missionary in charge of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, Maulvi Mohammed Bin Salih said the forum is a wake up call for Parliament to play its supervisory role in checking the excesses of the Executive and other arms of government.

A member of the National Executive Council of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council, Bishop Samuel Mensah said if the country has to make progress in its development agenda, there is the need to focus on accountability.

He urged Ghanaians to adopt the “country first” attitude as it is the surest way of eliminating corruption.

The Acting Director of the Parliamentary Training Institute, Mrs Gloria Kumawu said a lot has been done in the area of accountability, adding that good governance hinges on accounting to the people.

It is therefore imperative to always hold such forums with stakeholders to discuss issues and help the citizenry understand the essence of accounting to them.
