Ghana's democracy under siege says NDC

The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, (NDC), Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, says democracy is under siege in Ghana.

According to him no seat is more important than human lives therefore, the party has withdrawn from the contest.

Gunmen believed to be members of Invisible Forces, a political vigilante group, shot sporadically, leaving residents to run for their lives.

They were alledged to have invaded the Bawleshie residence of the NDC’s candidate, Kwasi Delali Berempong in the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election on Thursday morning.

Mr. Ofosu Ampofo speaking at a press conference in Accra following the shooting incident, said all party flags fly at half -mast in support for the injured.

He called for an investigation into the incident.

The conference was however, disrupted by some members of the party who were demanding equal reaction but the National Chairman asked supporters to be calm.

Six (6) people have been hospitalised with various degress of injuries with one in critical condition.

Meanwhile, the New Patriotic Party, (NPP) has expressed regret that the NDC has withdrawn from the contest.

The NPP General Secretary, John Boadu said their opponents are creating an impression to scare voters to come out and vote.
