Former Chairman of the PNC, Bernard Mornah says the government ought to re-think its revenue generating strategies.

According to him, the government should provide steps to ensure strategic ownership of some sectors in generating revenue.

Speaking on the GTV Breakfast Show, on Monday, November 23, 2021, Mr. Mornah asserted that the government does not control any of the telecommunications but rather generates revenue from them.

He added that the government could be generating profit from these sectors.

He also stated that the government controls 13% of the oil sector and 75% of the sector is owned by private entities.

“Government loses huge revenue from the oil sector,” he added.

Mr. Mornah emphasized that the government is rather using easy, lazy and uninspiring ways to generate revenue.

He explained that the government is taxing petroleum because it is an elastic demand and it is an easy way for generating revenue.

“A lot of people buy fuel even if the price is higher,” he posited.
