The Ghana Tuna Association has petitioned the Speaker of Parliament over the poor performance of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Development Minister-nominee, Mavis Hawa Koomson.

The Association says it has the conviction that the nominee is not fit to head the Fisheries and Aquaculture Development Ministry.

In its petition, the Association said Mrs. Koomson’s abysmal performance at the vetting indicates that she cannot lead the Ministry to find solution to challenges facing that sector.

Though the Association said it is willing to work with any person who is appointed by the President, it noted that recent experiences have taught it to pick early signals and submit concerns to the appointing authority for whatever remedy is needed to be taken.

It appealed to the Speaker Alban Bagbin, to act on the concerns to avoid problems.

Meanwhile, Security Analyst, Adam Bonaa disagrees with those kicking against the approval of Hawa Koomson as Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development over her poor performance at the vetting.

He believes Madam Koomson was one of the best performing Ministers of State in the previous administration and therefore urges the Appointments Committee of Parliament to approve her.

He spoke to Radio Ghana’s Eugenia Asumadu-Sakyi.
