The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abdulai Jinapor, says President Akufo-Addo’s comment on Akonta Mining Limited was just an assurance to the country on the state of affairs.

Mr. Jinapor says ”there will not be any interference in investigating the company’s wrongdoings.”

Speaking to journalists in Accra, Mr. Jinapor said “the President’s comment cannot absolve the company of any wrongdoing, in the past”.

He said his Ministry is working with the Special Prosecutor on the matter.

The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, said the President must rather be commended for his efforts in the fight against illegal mining.

He announced that the government, through the Military High Command, has reviewed strategies to fight illegal mining in Ghana.
