Limited Registration ends today with call on EC to extend the days

The last day of the limited voter registration has seen massive turn outs in almost all the designated centers and other additional centers that were created in the Northern region.

When Radio Ghana visited the Sagnarigu municipal EC office and the Tamale metro office, hundreds of registrants had thronged the two centres to go through the registration process.

Some of the registrants expressed dissatisfaction about the slow pace of the exercise and also call on the EC to endeavor to extend the days to ensure that a lot more of the young ones are registered.

The Exercise begun earnestly in the entire designated centers across the Northern region.

In all, twenty six centres including sixteen districts centres and ten additional selected centres were designated in the region to carry out the three weeks exercise.

The exercise will see persons who attained 18 years since the last registration as well as those who for one reason or another, have never registered to do so.

When the news team got to the various centres particularly the Sagnarigu and Tamale metro office, hundreds of young men and women were in a queen waiting aggressively to register.

The security had tough time controlling the crowd. Some of the people said they went to the centres between early hours of three and five so as to get registered on time but as of the time of the interview, they had not been registered.

While, some blamed the EC officials and party agents for preferential treatment thus slowing the pace of the exercise, others called on the EC to extend the registration days to enable them get registered

When contacted, the Deputy Regional Director of EC, Emmanuel Abeam Danso, said he is satisfied with the whole process adding that his outfit was resolved to address any challenged encountered during the exercise.

He said overcrowding at the various centers is eminent especially the last day and so centres were split into four to five centres to facilitate the process as well as get more people registered.

Some party agents expressed satisfaction about the process but also added their voices to calls on the EC to extend the registration days to prevent majority of the young ones been disenfranchised.
