The Local Government Service has announced plans to rationalize administrative staff of Metropolitan Municipal and District Assemblies as well as Regional Coordinating Councils over the large number of personnel which has left some with no work to do.
The situation is said to be affecting productivity and capacity development as staff are not able to learn on the job.

The Head of Local Government Service, Nana Ato Arthur made these revelations in a speech read on his behalf at the Third National Conference of the Ghana Association of Local Government Administrative Officers in Tamale.
He explained that, personnel these institutions far outweigh available work, necessitating the need to cut off excess staff.
The conference brought together hundreds of administrative staff of RCCs and MNDAs across the country to discuss their welfare, network and share ideas.

Speaking on the theme, “Repositioning the Administrative Class in the Local Government Service for Effective and Efficient Service Delivery,” Nana Ato Arthur, underscored the critical role of administrative staff in the decentralisation process.
He advised members of GALGA to stay apolitical and discharge their duties with diligence.
