The Minority Members of Parliament from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have criticised the conduct of Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GOLDBOD) and National Communications Officer of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), following a viral video showing him handing an undisclosed amount of US dollars to a former fetish priestess turned evangelist, Patricia Oduro Koranteng, popularly known as Nana Agradaa.
In a press conference held on Monday, May 12, 2025, the group described public attempts to downplay the incident as “ridiculous,” arguing that Mr. Gyamfi’s actions amounted to a betrayal of public trust and an abuse of office.
“Ladies and gentlemen, it is ridiculous to suggest that Sammy Gyamfi did no wrong with the opulence and naked betrayal of public mandate,” said Dr. Kabiru Tia Mahama, MP for Walewale and a member of the Finance Committee, who addressed the media on behalf of the Minority.
The group is calling for Mr. Gyamfi’s immediate suspension to allow for an impartial investigation into the source of the foreign currency. Although Mr. Gyamfi has issued an apology and is expected to meet with Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, the Minority insists that accountability must prevail.
“This is upfront on the Code of Conduct, it is against the Forex Exchange Act and also against the Currency Act.
Even though the Chief Justice mentioned that ignorance of the law is no excuse, Sammy Gyamfi is not ignorant of the law. He is a lawyer of high repute and understands clearly the consequences of this action. So, he ought to take responsibility for the same,” he stated.
The Minority further called on the President to act swiftly, stressing the need for transparency and upholding ethical standards in public office.
“We call for a full investigation into the source of the dollars displayed in the viral video,” he added.
