The National Democratic Congress (NDC) took a decisive step by disqualifying Michael Nii Yarboi Annan from participating in the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s parliamentary primaries for the Odododiodio constituency.
The move comes after a special committee was formed to investigate the violence that marred the vetting of parliamentary aspirants on October 13, 2023.
In a press release issued by the NDC, noted some reasons to justify the reason for disqualifying Mr. Michael Annan after they seek to address some misguided reactions to the decision by the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the party.
The Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the party, in consultation with the Political Committee of the party decided to disqualify Mr. Michael, citing several reasons outlined in the statement
According to the press release, Michael Nii Annan was formerly a member of the New Patriotic Party, having contested and lost in the NPP parliamentary primary for the Odododiodio constituency in September 2019.
During discussions with constituency executives, some expressed dissatisfaction with an ex-NPP member like Mr. Annan being allowed to participate in the parliamentary primaries without meeting the four-year membership requirement.
The committee’s investigation revealed that an oral agreement had been reached between the Member of Parliament for the Odododiodio constituency, the constituency chairman, and the constituency deputy secretary to appoint Annan as the constituency chairman.
Further findings indicated that Mr. Annan possessed an old NDC membership card, demonstrating payment of dues from January 2017 to 2019.
The Adjaho committee, tasked with investigating the Michael Nii Yarboi Annan case, concluded that Mr. Annan does not meet the qualifications to contest in the NDC parliamentary primaries for the Odododiodio constituency.
