The Inter-Party Resistance Against New Voter Register (IPRNA), has held a protest dubbed ‘Wɔkpɛnɛɛ’ in Accra to climax the much anticipated “y3n pini demonstration”.

The protesters had already begun a nationwide demonstration with Accra climaxing it, having organised two in different regions, Tamale and Kumasi respectively.

Whilst the parties see the decision of the Electoral Commission compiling a new voters’ register not necessary, the Commission still insists the current register is not fit for purpose.

Presenting their petition during to the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensah, the representative of the group, and Chairman of the PNC, Bernard Mornah said if the EC does not rescind its decision on compiling a new register, the time table for the election will be derailed.

Receiving the petition on behalf of the chairperson, the acting director of administration of the EC, Lawrence Srogbe, said he will duly forward the petition to the EC chair.

The EC strongly believes the compilation of a new voters’ register with some improved features will help to ensure a smooth exercise during December 7 general elections.

A member of IPRNA who is also a Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram Constituency, Sam Nartey George, in an interview said he do not agree with the EC for compiling a new register.

“Every time we have had agitation for a new register in this country, its been done by the opposition not by the sitting government.”
