The NDC says it is encouraged by President Akufo-Addo’s desire to push forward an initiative to achieve a peaceful and constructive national politics.
A statement, signed by the National Chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo said the party cannot however, restrain itself from drawing the President’s attention to the recently broadcast documentary by Investigative Journalist, Manasseh Azure Awuni on activities of an alleged militia group operating from the Castle, an annex of the Presidency.
Mr Ampofo said the unchallenged assertion in the documentary that these vigilantes are sponsored by the NPP and led by a personality who until recently, was the President’s personal bodyguard, casts doubts on the denials that the NPP neither sponsors, what the party calls, ‘undesirables’ nor have absorbed some of them into the statutory security services.
It said the documentary goes further to cement the need to consider the contents of the party’s letter on the 28th of February this year.
The NDC calls for a wider participation of all identifiable Interest Groups in the country to end all organised political vigilantes.
It also requested public entities such as the National Peace Council and civil society institutions to be invited to partake in the debate to end vigilantism in the country.
