The Awutu Senya Constituency Secretary of the NDC, Ahmadu Tauriq, has accused the NPP of being behind recent negative happenings in Kasoa in the Central Region.

Speaking on GBC’s ‘Behind the News’, Mr. Tauriq attributed Monday’s chaotic scene recorded at the registration center in Kasoa to the assault on an NDC Communicator, by the MCE of the Area, Michael Essuman Mensah.

He also linked the suspects to the MP for the Area, Hawa Koomson.

Mr. Tauriq cited instances where the suspects caused mayhem.

The MCE, Michael Essuman Mensah however, debunked the claims.

Arrests

Meanwhile, four people have been arrested after a shooting incident at a registration centre in Awutu Senya in the Central Region. The incident occurred at the ‘Kasoa Peace Town Top Hill Down’ Polling Center.

Reports say some motorbikes were burnt at the centre. Gun shots were fired in the confrontation that ensued. It is not clear what triggered the confrontation but eyewitnesses said some men numbering about 15 arrived at the Centre and tried to drive away some prospective registrants.

EC reacts

In a related development, the Electoral Commission, EC, has condemned the violence which has characterised the ongoing voter registration at some centers from the start of the exercise.

A statement issued by the Commission said these acts perpetuated by some political activists have the tendency to disrupt the country’s democratic system and breach the vigilante and related offences Act,2019, Act 999.
