The National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) says it is coming out with a long-term strategic and sustainable plan to comprehensively tackle the country’s depressing sanitation conundrum.

The Commission says it is unfortunate that the country’s sanitation problem particularly in Accra, has defied solutions for years.

Speaking in an interview with GBC’s Radio Ghana after a sanitation exercise at the Madina Market in Accra, the Director-General of the NDPC, Dr. Kodjo Mensah-Abrampah said the NDPC will not pretend everything is fine when it comes to sanitation issues.

Dr. Mensah Abrampah led a team, together with the Board Chair of the NDPC, Professor Steven Adei, to desilt choked gutters and cleared garbage along the streets of the Madina Market.

He said the NDPC will henceforth activate its constitutional mandate to join in the battle to stem the insanitary conditions of the country.

Dr. Mensah-Abrampah said the NDPC will engage the public on the Country’s sanitation problem at a forum at the British Council Hall in Accra on Thursday, December 19.

The various communities in the country he said, will be active participants in the fight to solve the country’s sanitation problems.

The Board Chairman of the NDPC, Professor Steven Adei said the sanitation problem in the country has assumed a policy challenge which must be seriously dealt with.
