NPP gears up for Parliamentary Primaries tomorrow

The Bono Regional Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party, NPP Kofi Boateng says the NPP has gone out of tradition to organize this year’s Parliamentary Primaries at Electoral Areas rather than by the usual Electoral College System.

That was the practice inprevious elections, but in a bid to contain the spread of Covid-19 the Party has adopted this new approach.

He assured that the NPP has put in place stringent measures and the provision of PPEs to Delegates and Officials at Polling Stations to see to it that everyone is adequately protected from infections.

In an interview with Radio Ghana, he stated that the Party will go by the directives of Government and Health Experts to have a Covid-19 free Primaries.

The ruling NPP is expected to go to the polls coming Saturday June 20 to elect Parliamentary Candidates for the 2020 general elections.

With the outbreak of Covid-19, safety protocols such social distancing, wearing of face masks, washing of hands with soap under running water frequently and others will be crucial in containing the disease during the exercise.

In an interview to gauge NPP’s preparedness towards the upcoming Parliamentary Primaries amidst Covid-19, the Bono Regional Secretary of the Party, Kofi Boateng, told Radio Ghana the party will employ all the necessary measures to protect delegates and individuals from the disease.

He disclosed that the outbreak of Covid-19 has prompted the Party to change its voting tradition of huge numbers converging at one venue to cast their ballot to the adoption of a more decentralized approach.

With regards to security, he says the Party at both the national and Regional levels is working hand in hand with the Ghana Police Service to ensure a smooth exercise.

In all 25 Candidates with 5 unopposed Candidates are vying for the right to be Parliamentary Candidates for 6 constituencies out of the twelve in the Region. 6205 delegates are expected to participate in the exercise at 1243 polling stations in 322 electoral areas.

The exception being the Banda constituency which as an orphan constituency has already selected its candidate.
