The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has confirmed it will not allow proxy voting in its upcoming presidential primaries on January 31, 2026.
Chairman of the NPP Presidential Elections Committee, Joseph Osei-Owusu, stated that the decision aims to ensure a credible and incident-free election.
Mr. Osei-Owusu explained that the prohibition on proxy voting is intended to prevent disputes and protect the integrity of the process. He emphasized that all eligible delegates must be physically present at their assigned polling stations to cast their votes, with no one voting on behalf of another person.
“We will not permit proxy voting in the primaries come January 31,” he said.
Speaking in an interview on the GTV breakfast show today, January 27, he added that the use of mobile phones in polling booths will be prohibited.
Mr. Osei-Owusu questioned the need to take photos of marked ballots. He warned that voters found showing their ballots will not be allowed to deposit them into the box.
He also warned that results from polling stations compromised by misconduct or irregularities will be annulled.
